Streaming video from mobile phone sounds like a complex task. you need to record the video, upload it to the internet and then share it. Qik is one of my favorite application, click on one button and the E72 streaming live video to the internet!

Navigate from your Nokia E72 to  http://m.qik.com and download the application. It also can be found in OVI store.

When running the application for the first time there is a need to create new account if you don’t have one or login to an existing account. for now on your are ready to stream live video include audio or to record videos offline and upload them later.

Click on the middle navigation key to start recording/streaming video, the video can be found at http://qik.com/<your username>

Public (Click on #5)-  anyone can see it on the above location

Private (Click on #0) – Only confirmed users can watch your videos.

The option menu provide additional features:

Geolocation – geolocation tagging, from a city level through street level and the maximum accuracy level of track live level which allows automatic updates of you location while streaming. When this features enabled a map of the location video was taken displayed on the Qik site.

Audio – Mute audio /un-mute

Share – Sharing the video using SMS to send hyperlink, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, using qik site and additional applications.

Go Offline - Record videos in offline mode.

Settings Following settings supported:

Camera – Select front or back camera

Optimize for – Choose Minimum delay or higher video quality

Quality – Choose Low/Normal/High depends on your internet connection

Access point – Internet connection settings,

Share location – geo tagging off or other options I mention before,

Record in background - By default when applicaion on background it stops recording/streaming here you can change this behavior.

Connection – Choose whether Qik connects to internet by default, stays offline  or ask your permission to go online.

Ovi Store offers also premium version for 5 euros. I didn’t purchase it, I don’t like to pay for application I can’t test before purchase.

It seems that Fring is the best solution for having all messenger and VoIP applications on the Nokia E72. So you might wonder what if there is a reason to install Skype’s application for Symbian S60 on the phone.  The short answer: if you are using Skype for more then just chatting and calling friends you defiantly should consider installing the application.

And now for the long answer….. The Skype application for Symbian provides almost all features that Skype desktop application provides:

• Register to Skype if you don’t have user.
• Calling other Skype Users
• Chatting with other Skype Users
• Calling any phone using Skype Out (Charge Applies)
• Sending SMS Messages using Skype Network (Charge Applies, Not supported by Fring)
• Sending and Receiving files from other Skype users
• Adding users to contacts (Not supported by Fring)
• For users who are subscribed to  additional Skype services, the application provides information about the subscription status, Voice mails  and Call credit. (Not supported by Fring)

Unfortunately like Fring,even this application doesn’t support video calls on Nokia E72. Other then that it’s a great application.

If you looked at my previous post about Nokia E72 internal browser you saw that some people comment that the best browser for Nokia E72 is Skyfire. And of course they are right, Skyfire is really good internet browser which provides almost like PC surfing experience.

Download the application using the Nokia E72 web browser  http://m.skyfire.com

The first thing you will notice is the ability to quickly type the address of the site you want to navigate to. Start typing the address and the skyfire will suggest matching web site. it is also possible to search google straight from the address bar.

if you’ll wait few more seconds you will be able to use the home page features:

• Recent Searches.
• Popular sites.
• Direct updates from Facebook and twitter.
• History
• Bookmarks
• Ability to register so all your bookmarks will be saved in your account.

The Skyfire also supports video stream include audio!!, just surf to youtube site and click on the video and watch the video, it’s that easy.

Navigating a page is done using the navigation key and 3 to zoom in and 1 to zoom out. when moving around the navigation key you will notice a grey square, if you would like to zoom in this area click on 3, you can repeat this action to zoom more. On click is to click on buttons and links and 2 clicks are used for quick zoom in/ zoom out.

I used this browser with quite complicate websites including web sites that contains flash and it works without any problem.

Each time using the application there is a need to calibrate the digital compass. Actually it does matter which application you are using the digial compass needs to be calibrate each time.  The calibration is done according to the following diagram, waving the Nokia E72 and “drawing” the infinity symbol in the air.

Once compass calibrated the application shows the north in an old fashioned way.

The Worldmate offers following services for free:

The weathercast is scheduled weather updates that can be scheduled for up to twice a day.

For those who travel frequently there is a gold  annual subscriber for the additional following  services:

• Flight Status for more than 175 airlines
• Real-time Alerts for flight delays or cancellations
• Flight Schedules for over 800 airlines
• Satellite Weather Imagery

Fring 3.4 on Nokia E72 supports following messengers and features:

• Skype              - Chat,  Voice calls, File Transfer
• Google Talk  - Chat, Voice Calls
• MSN                - Chat, Voice Calls, File Transfer
• ICQ                  - Chat
• Yahoo MSG  - Chat

Currently Fring version 4 is not supported by Nokia E72.This version supports  Skype video calls as well.

Additionally if you have SIP account you can use the Fring to place and receive voice calls. I’m using Gizmo5 account and it works great.

Fring provides access to additional social netowrk such as Twitter, last.fm and Facebook. I found it unfriendly and slow, in my opinion it’s better to use other applications for these services.

The application can be download from the ovi store, browsing from the Nokia E72 browser to http://m.fring.com or using the attached barcode.

After installation, run the application. first screen create fring account and then select relevant messanger accounts and type your personal username, password for each account.

Fring supports connectivity via WIFI and Cellular network. In Options > Settings > Connectivity it’s possible to configure access group of WIFI and Cellular access point to connect through.

Mecanto provides service that allows access to personal music files from anywhere using web browser or Nokia E72 (Other mobile phones supported as well). Once Mecanto application installed on PC (Currently only Windows supported), the application uploads all music files to Mecanto web. From now on personal music files can be  accessed using Mecanto’s player for Symbain S60.

Installation Procedure

1. Go to http://www.mecanto .com and register
2. Download PC application and install it
3. Once Mecanto application runs on the PC an icon displayed in the taskbar. Right-click on the icon and their choose folders Mecanto should scan and upload music files from. It’s also possible to connect to ITunes (I didn’t try this option)
4. Uploading of the files can take several hours or more.
5. Navigate to http://mecanto.com/ms or use the attached barcode from your Nokia E72 browser and download the application.

It is very easy to use Mecanto player on the E72, type username and password and now you can access all your music collection. The music can be played according to Albums, Artists, Genres, Tracks or files order on the original PC. It is also possible to create play lists.

The Mecanto player allows all standards functions such as play, stop, pause, shuffle and repeat.

Important Notes:

• Mecanto supported music files: mp3, m4a, wma, ogg
• Currently there is now limitation on the number or size of music files that can be uploaded to the site,
• Linux and MAC OS users will need to upload files manually using web browser.
• During playback the player access the internet constantly, make sure you are connected using WIFI or you have internet bundle to support heavy internet traffic.

Here and Now - Weather page

Nokia Labs (beta applications) offers the application here and now  for the Nokia E72. the application provides local information according to Geo location.

It’s very nice application that works well, currently the application offers local weather and local events but I’m sure that more information will be available once it released officially.
