If you looked at my previous post about Nokia E72 internal browser you saw that some people comment that the best browser for Nokia E72 is Skyfire. And of course they are right, Skyfire is really good internet browser which provides almost like PC surfing experience.

The first thing you will notice is the ability to quickly type the address of the site you want to navigate to. Start typing the address and the skyfire will suggest matching web site. it is also possible to search google straight from the address bar.

if you’ll wait few more seconds you will be able to use the home page features:

• Recent Searches.
• Popular sites.
• Direct updates from Facebook and twitter.
• History
• Bookmarks
• Ability to register so all your bookmarks will be saved in your account.

The Skyfire also supports video stream include audio!!, just surf to youtube site and click on the video and watch the video, it’s that easy.

Navigating a page is done using the navigation key and 3 to zoom in and 1 to zoom out. when moving around the navigation key you will notice a grey square, if you would like to zoom in this area click on 3, you can repeat this action to zoom more. On click is to click on buttons and links and 2 clicks are used for quick zoom in/ zoom out.

I used this browser with quite complicate websites including web sites that contains flash and it works without any problem.

Google Mobile app provides the power of google engine in your Nokia E72. In addition to fast access to the google’s search engine the application allows additional nice features:

• Search by voice – Search google using your voice. Click on the “call button” say the term you would like to search and then release the button.
• Links to other google applications such as You Tube and Google Maps.
• Search according to your location. Search for  ”Pizza” and get the pizzerias near you.
• Links to Google apps for Business.

To download the application navigate to m.google.com/search from your phone. After installation there is a need to select country from a list. if your country is not available just select United States. It’s not that important which country you selected. Now you can confirm or block the application from using  your location. The location can be used for search local business.

The main page consists of four links to Google applications: Gmail, Google Maps, You Tube and Picasa. Click on “more” for links to additional google applications. In left lower corner your location will be displayed if allowed the application to use location.

Click Options and then Settings for following options:

Quick Key Access – If “yes” selected you can access the application  using the clear key from main page. In my Nokia E72 the quick key works only if the application running.

Quick Key Reminder – If “yes” selected remind message for quick key access will appears periodically.

Enable Voice Search – If “yes” selected, click on the call key for voice search.

Voice Search Dialect – For setting the voice search.

Google Apps Domain – If you use Google Apps for Business , select “yes” to access business applications.

Use My Location – If “yes” selected, the application using the location for search.

Remember Search History – Display your last search terms

Show Suggestions – If selected “Yes”, When type search terms google suggesting words for search term.

Country – Country selected during installation.

I installed the second version which is intend for 6210, N79, N85, N96. It can be downloaded from here

First step after installing the software is to customize it according to your needs. Scroll down and select Settings and then General,  Autostart on/off – Start application when phone starts, Measurements, steps target per day

Under User settings follow parameters available: Name, Age, Gender, Height, Weight and Step Length.

Once finished to setup the application we can start walking and count steps, The today screen displays steps statistics include step time, energy and distance. Navigation between Activity graph and Steps target graph is done using th up and down arrows.

Diary screen provides detailed information for each day.

Progress provides weekly summary for each week of the year.

Nokia published new software update for the Nokia E72. The new software version is 022.007.

To display current phone software version type  *#0000# or Menu->Ctrl. panel->Phone->Device mgr.

From same screen it’s possible to check if new software available for your phone: Options-> Check for update.

If software update available for your phone just confirm the software update. The software downloads, Phone restarts and then the new version installs. The complete update takes about 5 minutes.

You might find that the new version is not available for your phone. Nokia releases different software versions updates according to region and operator.

The only change I have noticed after upgrading is fixing the contacts key issue. In the old version long press on the contacts key didn’t create new contact like it should.

• When typing address in the browser you can select one of the following suffixes from popup list: com, org or net. Just type the address and then when typing the period you’ll get the list  of suffixes. it’s also possible to edit  this list to add new suffixes.  Options->Settings-> General-> Web address suffix
• The browser support following keypad shortcuts:

1. Toolbar – Toolbar with several options.
2. Text Search – Ability to search text within the page.

• Another option to display the toolbar is by clicking on blank spot on the page.

• You can customize the keypad shortcuts and also the toolbar to fit your needs:

• When moving the cursor in a page, small picture of the all page displayed, it’s called mini map. Some people find this feature annoying. To disable the feature:  Options->Settings->General ->Mini map-> Off.
• The browser supports multiple windows. When multiple windows open you can see on the top right the window number. It’s possible to move between windows using the menu or to assign it as keypad shortcut or toolbar shortcut.

Gravity supports multiple twitter accounts and all twitter functions for each account: Tweeting, Time line, Replies, Friends, Direct Messages (DM).

For each twitt by clicking on the select navigation button it’s possible to Re-twitt (RT), Send direct message (DM), follow URL if there is any or to add the twitter user to you following list.

Just start to type the message inside the account in order to tweet (Post tweet message).

Gravity supports alerts for each account activity. I.E. It possible to define voice alert for reply messages in one of the twitter accounts

Gravity allows to define multiple search terms that automatically update for twitter channel(#)  or search term.

It also recommend to use the “auto connect WIFI network”  feature (can be found in the Settings page) which automatically connects to WIFI network when available instead of 3G network.

The software available for 10 days evaluation and after cost 10$ for permanent licence for specific phone (IMEI). Purchasing directly from Gravity website is only 10$ while from OVI store cost 10 Euros.

Fring 3.4 on Nokia E72 supports following messengers and features:

• Skype              - Chat,  Voice calls, File Transfer
• Google Talk  - Chat, Voice Calls
• MSN                - Chat, Voice Calls, File Transfer
• ICQ                  - Chat
• Yahoo MSG  - Chat

Currently Fring version 4 is not supported by Nokia E72.This version supports  Skype video calls as well.

Additionally if you have SIP account you can use the Fring to place and receive voice calls. I’m using Gizmo5 account and it works great.

Fring provides access to additional social netowrk such as Twitter, last.fm and Facebook. I found it unfriendly and slow, in my opinion it’s better to use other applications for these services.

The application can be download from the ovi store, browsing from the Nokia E72 browser to http://m.fring.com or using the attached barcode.

After installation, run the application. first screen create fring account and then select relevant messanger accounts and type your personal username, password for each account.

Fring supports connectivity via WIFI and Cellular network. In Options > Settings > Connectivity it’s possible to configure access group of WIFI and Cellular access point to connect through.
