has new update,  version 1.05.

Most of the new features not relevant to the Nokia E72 (S60 5th support,Nokia N97 Home screen widget) and other features aren’t very intersting (Additional ‘Last charge’ information at main application,Check for updates feature,Send to a friend feature) but the last general feature in the change log (Minor improvements, bugfixes and opitimization) might be interesting for current users.

The only compliance I got about this application is that the timer is covered by the vendor logo. I think, and correct if I wrong, that this issue solved in the new version.

Opera Mini designed to support phones with limited CPU and memory who can’t handle web page processing (rendering) locally. The Opera Mobile browser is capable of handling the pages locally although it’s possible also to use Opera’s server for handling the page rendering (Settings->turbo). I installed the Opera Mobile version 10 on my Nokia E72.

The application starts with “speed dial” screen, screen that contains shortcut to up to 9 web pages include screen shot of the page. On the top section of the browser an address  and google  search box.

The browser display the page quite fast and provides very easy access to the page using a selection area. use the arrows to select specific section of the page and click on the middle navigation key to zoom. Zoom out is done using the right soft key.

Left softkey displays several options: Address bar, Search box, navigation back and forward, Reload and browsing back to the speed dial screen. Additional options available when clicking on small arrow under the address bar. The additional options include access to bookmarks, browsing history, Save pages locally and settings.

The browser support tabs to access several web pages at the same time. the advantage over Nokia web browser is the ability to open tab. Above the address bar you will found plus (+) sign click on it and new browsing options will appear.

Click on # + [1-9] for accessing links from the speed dial screen. if you don’t remember the shortcut click on the # and wait, the browser displays all shortcuts.

The * is used for fast access to browser features. Just click on the * and wait to see all options.

The browser doesn’t support flash content so it’s not possible to watch movies. Anyhow I prefer the youtube application for watching youtube movies.

Opera Mobile is great web browser, give it a try it’s for free.

It provides free of charge navigation application with turn by turn navigation  instructions. The application supports several languages for audio guidance.

Those of you who are looking for other then the standard voice guide would be happy to know that Nokia released new application, Own Voice for Ovi Maps.

The application  has 2 main features:

• Record guidance using your own voice
• Select from other precoded audios made by other users.

Downloading of pre-recorded voice guidance takes some time, make sure you have fast internet connection. Once downloaded or recorded your own guidance open the Ovi maps application and for audio guidance select “Own voice”.

Please note that the application is supported by latest ovi maps application (3.03 and above)

The application is available for downloading  from ovi store or from own voice for ovi maps web site.

SmartConnect (SC) was added to Nokia E72 as part of the last firmware update (031.023). The purpose of this application it to allow easy and fast connection to the internet. let’s see if it does the job like it should…

I would expect this kind of application to support following features:
1. definition of connections groups (Both 3G and WiFi)
2. Auto switching between connections according to priorities
3. Auto connection to WiFi hot spots with portal

The E72 supports destinations as I mentioned in one of my previous posts. Destination is group of connections. So this issue is not a problem.

Second issue is really important feature, most of us have limited 3G connection and prefer to have connection over free wifi when possible. Unfortuantly this version of SC does not support it
Auto connection to hotspost with portal is nice to have feature, SC claims to support it using WISPr protocol. I didn’t try it so I can’t say if it works but as far as I know this protocol won’t support all cases. for example some of the hotspots  have just welcome screen that needs to be confirm, I don’t think that WISPr supports it.

Not sure why Nokia decided to add this application to the phone, They should have provide application that provides a real value to it’s users. What do you think?

 Bloomberg is a well known source for financial and business information. Bloomberg mobile application provides aggregates financial news and stock exchange updates.

The application consists of 4 sections, use the menu (Left soft key to switch between them):

NEWS – news headlines in various financial topics. Customize the news source by selecting “Edit” in the top right section of the page.

Markets – Updated information for Equity indices, Commodities, Bonds and Currencies.

My stocks – Information about stocks from almost any stock exchange market. Use the edit command to customize the stock you would like to follow.

Select one of the stocks to get detailed information about the stock performance include current (delayed) information, historical data and graphs.

Search - Stock finder, type the name of the company you are looking for and get detailed information about the company’s stock.

Download the application using the phone web browser  http://m.bloomberg.com/

The application is also available on the OVI store but I found that they don’t provide the latest version.

I just found the right application for you, ShoppingList. The application can be download using the OVI store application or in the OVI store web site using the above link.

Items

The items are stored in the application and can be added to any (Shopping) list. Options-> Item-> Add item. Select name, quantity and sort. it’s also possible to edit the item when adding it to a list (The quantity for instance) .

List

Create new list to add items to it. Options-> Mode -> Edit/Create mode. The title change to red an then you can add items to the list, Select <<add new>>.

Once finished change the mode to Shopping mode. when shopping mark V or X on each item by clicking on the middle navigation button (cool isn’t it?)

It’s also possible to have multiple shopping lists using the load old command.

That’s it you are ready for shopping.

Streaming video from mobile phone sounds like a complex task. you need to record the video, upload it to the internet and then share it. Qik is one of my favorite application, click on one button and the E72 streaming live video to the internet!

Navigate from your Nokia E72 to  http://m.qik.com and download the application. It also can be found in OVI store.

When running the application for the first time there is a need to create new account if you don’t have one or login to an existing account. for now on your are ready to stream live video include audio or to record videos offline and upload them later.

Click on the middle navigation key to start recording/streaming video, the video can be found at http://qik.com/<your username>

Public (Click on #5)-  anyone can see it on the above location

Private (Click on #0) – Only confirmed users can watch your videos.

The option menu provide additional features:

Geolocation – geolocation tagging, from a city level through street level and the maximum accuracy level of track live level which allows automatic updates of you location while streaming. When this features enabled a map of the location video was taken displayed on the Qik site.

Audio – Mute audio /un-mute

Share – Sharing the video using SMS to send hyperlink, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, using qik site and additional applications.

Go Offline - Record videos in offline mode.

Settings Following settings supported:

Camera – Select front or back camera

Optimize for – Choose Minimum delay or higher video quality

Quality – Choose Low/Normal/High depends on your internet connection

Access point – Internet connection settings,

Share location – geo tagging off or other options I mention before,

Record in background - By default when applicaion on background it stops recording/streaming here you can change this behavior.

Connection – Choose whether Qik connects to internet by default, stays offline  or ask your permission to go online.

Ovi Store offers also premium version for 5 euros. I didn’t purchase it, I don’t like to pay for application I can’t test before purchase.

It seems that Fring is the best solution for having all messenger and VoIP applications on the Nokia E72. So you might wonder what if there is a reason to install Skype’s application for Symbian S60 on the phone.  The short answer: if you are using Skype for more then just chatting and calling friends you defiantly should consider installing the application.

And now for the long answer….. The Skype application for Symbian provides almost all features that Skype desktop application provides:

• Register to Skype if you don’t have user.
• Calling other Skype Users
• Chatting with other Skype Users
• Calling any phone using Skype Out (Charge Applies)
• Sending SMS Messages using Skype Network (Charge Applies, Not supported by Fring)
• Sending and Receiving files from other Skype users
• Adding users to contacts (Not supported by Fring)
• For users who are subscribed to  additional Skype services, the application provides information about the subscription status, Voice mails  and Call credit. (Not supported by Fring)

Unfortunately like Fring,even this application doesn’t support video calls on Nokia E72. Other then that it’s a great application.
