jbaktaskman

If you are looking for a tool which provides the ability to close, quick launch or autostart applications and much more  jbak TaskMan might be the right solution for you.

I will say it right from the start although the application is very useful it is not very intuitive. It has many functions but it isn’t easy to understand how to use them. in this post all review some of the features.

Once application installed long press on the “home” key and the task manger main menu appears. The screen consists of 2 columns: the left menu displays application that currently running on the phone and the right side menu is the launch menu.

The open tasks menu provides the ability to perform several tasks on  running applications:

  • Switch between applications  – Just use the navigation keys
  • Close the application using the (C) key
  • Display detailed information about the application memory, ID, location on the phone memory and Capabilities  – Menu and #5
  • Program Rules – This features provide the ability to change application behavior.
    • How to display the application in the task list -Hidden,visible…
    • Autostrat – If checked the application starts when the phone turned on
    • Kill after send to back – When switch from application it will be removed from memory.
    • Kill by memory clean -The jbtask provides the ability to close all applications which checked with this option. To run memory clean – Menu -> tools(#6) ->Memory Clean (#8)

The launch menu on the right doesn’t consist any item by default. It provides quick launch of  applications, documents, phone numbers or even SMS message. To add item use the menu, “add to launch menu” (#4). Once application added to launch menu, it can be launched using the number displayed near the application name.

It’s also possible to run any application by pressing # and then typing the application name.

The jbak taskman is free and can be downloaded from here.

Definitely a great app, one of the most useful things you can install on a Symbian phone. I’m currently using Handy Taskman instead, which is a bit more user-friendly but has less features. I might switch back to Jback Taskman one of these days.

I agree with Kenneth that Handy Taskman is more user-friendly. I tried jbak on my E72 and could not get used to it after years of using HT on my old E62. Plus, jbak seems like it is unfinished and it would close whenever I hit certain keys, which was really annoying. If you can scrape up the cash, spring for Handy Taskman.

taskman is a good free light app

one thing though, i was using it on the e71, and i could restart the phone from the app itself (which prevents me the hassle of entering the pin code and phone code)

now on the e72, the restart isnt working

Same here on the Restart Phone issue. Likewise for the Restart feature on PhoNetInfo when running on the E72, too.

Version 1.37 as at 10 June 2010 finally works on the E72. The restart feature works like a charm among other additions like application light control.
