It has been log time ago since we had to carry CDs to listen to music on the move. Even today when using MP3 it’s not very convenient to copy MP3 files from the computer to MP3 player or your Nokie E72. Files are lost on the way, memory size is limited and Murphy laws always work, you copy all your songs except your favorite one.
Mecanto provides service that allows access to personal music files from anywhere using web browser or Nokia E72 (Other mobile phones supported as well). Once Mecanto application installed on PC (Currently only Windows supported), the application uploads all music files to Mecanto web. From now on personal music files can be accessed using Mecanto’s player for Symbain S60.
Installation Procedure
- Go to http://www.mecanto .com and register
- Download PC application and install it
- Once Mecanto application runs on the PC an icon displayed in the taskbar. Right-click on the icon and their choose folders Mecanto should scan and upload music files from. It’s also possible to connect to ITunes (I didn’t try this option)
- Uploading of the files can take several hours or more.
- Navigate to http://mecanto.com/ms or use the attached barcode from your Nokia E72 browser and download the application.
It is very easy to use Mecanto player on the E72, type username and password and now you can access all your music collection. The music can be played according to Albums, Artists, Genres, Tracks or files order on the original PC. It is also possible to create play lists.
The Mecanto player allows all standards functions such as play, stop, pause, shuffle and repeat.
Important Notes:
- Mecanto supported music files: mp3, m4a, wma, ogg
- Currently there is now limitation on the number or size of music files that can be uploaded to the site,
- Linux and MAC OS users will need to upload files manually using web browser.
- During playback the player access the internet constantly, make sure you are connected using WIFI or you have internet bundle to support heavy internet traffic.

Not sure why to use that when you can buy a 16 GB card cheap and just use FolderPlay, LCG Jukebox or other decent player to listen to them.

The advantage of using this service is the easy management of music files. I hear music in multiple places and using this service I copies music files to one place and the service make them available on multiple devices.

Hi,
thanks for this. but I’m looking for a good offline player (I tried today the embedded music player and I really don’t like it).
Any idea? Would you have time to review the various options on your blog?
I understand your point about copying songs only in one place, but still the idea of copying my music online and streaming it is not my first choice for various reasons.
I’m very interested in Spotify premium. It seems to me the best way to have a constantly updating playlist. I’ll find out if I can try it for one month or so to see if it’s an user friendly as I think.

LCG Jukebox is awesome. I used it for years on my E62 and it was the first thing I bought for my E72. I’m still looking for software that will sync all of my music _and playlists_ to the phone. Media Center put all of my files on there, but I’m still missing my playlists. Media Monkey puts the music in the wrong place. Anybody ever found something that works?
